Tragedy has reportedly struck Boji-Boji Owa in Ika North-East Local Government Area of Delta State, following the alleged killing of a landlord, Mr Lucky Obaze, by his tenant over a ₦1,500 electricity bill.

The incident reportedly occurred on December 21, 2025. The suspect, identified simply as Chiboy and said to be from Calabar, Cross River State, was living with his brother, Victor, in a one-room apartment within a compound belonging to the late father of the deceased.

Mr Obaze, an indigene of the Owa-Oyibu community, resided in the same compound with his wife and six children.

According to a report by Ika Weekly Newspaper, the disagreement began when Mr Obaze went to collect the tenant’s electricity bill, as he had done routinely.

One of the deceased’s children, Master Success Lucky, recounted that an argument broke out between his father and the tenant over the ₦1,500 bill.

The child alleged that the disagreement escalated into a physical confrontation. After the initial altercation, Mr Obaze reportedly returned upstairs to rest. Moments later, the suspect allegedly followed him upstairs and attacked him.

The deceased’s wife, Mrs Helen Obaze, has appealed to security agencies, the Nigerian government, and human rights organisations to ensure that justice is served. She lamented that the incident had left her solely responsible for the care of their six children.

Mrs Obaze also confirmed that her husband’s remains have been deposited in a mortuary to allow the police to carry out a full investigation into the matter.
