Two occupants of a vehicle were killed in a lone road accident along the Isara-Remo axis of the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway in the early hours of Monday.
According to a traffic situation report obtained from the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), the crash occurred about 3:00 a.m., although the victims were discovered several hours later.
TRACE operatives and police officers reportedly arrived at the scene around 7:00 a.m., where they found the lifeless bodies of the two yet-to-be-identified passengers inside a Suzuki bus.
Preliminary findings indicated that the vehicle may have rammed into a stationary truck that had broken down along the highway. Excessive speed was identified as a likely contributing factor.
The accident vehicle was identified as a Suzuki bus with registration number KRD 194 JW.
A portion of the report stated that the incident happened around the Isara-Remo/Erimobi Bridge, inbound Lagos.
A security guard at a nearby company reportedly heard a loud impact during the night but only became aware of the crash when emergency responders arrived in the morning.
TRACE confirmed that only two people were involved in the crash, and both lost their lives.
The remains of the deceased were deposited at the State General Hospital in Isara-Remo, while the damaged vehicle was evacuated to Papa Oscar’s yard at the Isara-Remo Police Station for further investigation.
Confirming the incident, TRACE spokesperson Babatunde Akinbiyi expressed sympathy to the families of the victims and urged motorists to exercise caution, particularly by avoiding excessive speed.
He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to maintaining safety on major highways, especially during the yuletide period when traffic volume increases.
Recent weeks have seen a rise in fatal accidents along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway. In October, a multiple-vehicle collision at the Kara Bridge claimed the lives of a police inspector and four others, while another crash involving two trucks at the Otedola Bridge left a driver hospitalised.
