The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has confirmed that no injuries or fatalities were recorded after a train collided with a commercial bus in the Arena area of Oshodi, Lagos, on Monday night.

The incident involved a white Toyota Hiace bus and occurred around 7:53 p.m., according to a preliminary report released by LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, and dated December 23, 2025.

LASEMA stated that it received distress calls through its 767 and 112 emergency toll-free lines and immediately activated the state’s emergency response plan from its Cappa Base in Oshodi.

The agency’s response team arrived at the scene at about 8:11 p.m. and confirmed that the bus, with registration number AGL-671-XR, had been struck by an oncoming train.

Preliminary findings by emergency responders indicated that the accident was caused by reckless driving on the part of the bus driver, who reportedly drove into the rail corridor near the Arena Shopping Complex, where the vehicle became trapped on the tracks before being hit by the train.

Despite the severity of the collision, LASEMA confirmed that no casualties or deaths were recorded. However, the crash resulted in extensive damage to the Toyota Hiace bus.

Emergency officials said a risk assessment was immediately carried out at the scene, and safety measures were put in place to prevent secondary incidents.

Train operations were temporarily suspended to allow for the safe evacuation and removal of the damaged vehicle.

The bus was later extracted from the railway tracks and towed to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) yard in Oshodi.

LASEMA confirmed that the rail line has since been cleared and normal train operations restored, marking the successful conclusion of the recovery operation.

The response operation involved personnel from LASEMA’s Cappa Base as well as officers of LASTMA.
