An Ogun State High Court sitting in Ijebu-Ode has declined a request by popular Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde, also known as KWAM1, to stop the ongoing process for the selection and installation of the next Awujale of Ijebuland.
Justice A. A. Omoniyi, on Monday, refused to grant an interim injunction sought by the musician against Governor Dapo Abiodun and five other respondents, ruling that the application lacked sufficient merit.
Ayinde, who was represented by Wahab Shittu (SAN), had approached the court for an interim order pending the determination of a substantive suit challenging the Awujale selection process. However, the court held that there were no compelling grounds to justify the grant of such relief.
Following the ruling, Justice Omoniyi ordered an accelerated hearing of the substantive suit and fixed January 14, 2026, for further proceedings.
KWAM1 had earlier declared interest in the vacant Awujale stool, asserting that he is a descendant of the Jadiara Royal House within the broader Fusengbuwa Ruling House.
His claim, however, was rejected by the Fusengbuwa ruling house, which maintained that the musician does not belong to the royal lineage.
In response, Ayinde instituted a suit against the Fusengbuwa ruling house, Governor Abiodun, the Chairman of Ijebu-Ode Local Government, Dare Alebiosu, and three other officials.
Other respondents in the suit include the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ganiyu Hamzat; the Secretary of Ijebu-Ode Local Government, Oke Adebanjo; and the Chairman of the Awujale Interregnum Administrative Council, Dr. Olorogun Sunny Kuku.
The suit, marked HC3/238/2025, was filed ex parte and anchored on relevant provisions of the Ogun State High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules 2024, Section 36 of the 1999 Constitution, and the court’s inherent jurisdiction.
Ayinde urged the court to restrain the respondents and their agents from taking any further steps in the Awujale installation process, arguing that such an order was necessary to protect his interest and preserve the subject matter of the suit.
With the court’s refusal to grant the interim injunction, the focus now shifts to the substantive hearing, which will determine the validity of KWAM1’s claim to the Awujale stool.
