Fresh reports indicate that Abubakar Yakubu, the newly elected President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), has been involved in a fatal auto crash in the Surulere area of Lagos.

Yakubu, who secured the AGN presidency after a tightly contested election in which he defeated veteran actress Rita Daniels by 116 votes to 113, was reportedly driving when the accident occurred. Rita Daniels is the mother of the popular actress, Regina Daniels.

According to a report by Sahara Reporters, the crash resulted in the death of one person. Details about the victim have not yet been made public.

Following the incident, Yakubu was taken into custody at the Barracks Police Station in Surulere, where officers have begun an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. It is not yet clear whether speeding, mechanical failure, or any other factor contributed to the accident.

Yakubu was the first person from the north to occupy the number one seat in the AGN since the association was created in 1998.

As of press time, neither the police nor the AGN leadership has released an official statement regarding the cause of the crash or Yakubu’s current legal status.

Additional updates are expected as investigations progress.
