Businessman Isaac Fayose has criticised Nigeria’s First Lady, Remi Tinubu, over a viral video in which she asked Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, to stop singing during the 10th coronation anniversary of the Ooni of Ife held on Saturday, December 6.
In a video statement shared online, Fayose described the First Lady’s conduct as an “abuse of power.” He questioned whether the wife of a United States president—citing an example with former President Donald Trump—would ever address a state governor in such a manner.
According to Fayose, Remi Tinubu’s tone towards Governor Adeleke may be linked to political disagreements, particularly Adeleke’s refusal to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Fayose said, “Imagine the wife of President Trump threatening to turn off the microphone of a governor in his own state. A whole governor cannot speak in peace. The wife of the president says she will switch off the mic if he doesn’t stop? That’s not right. Governor Adeleke, I’m sorry about this. Maybe it’s because you used to jump and enter APC. Why would she humiliate you like this?
This is absolute power. How can anyone address a governor like that in a country that practises separation of powers?”
He went on to express concern about what he described as rising displays of political dominance and public humiliation of elected officials.
