The 16-year-old Zimbabwean schoolboy who was seen in a viral private tape with his 33-year-old Mathematics teacher, Zvikomborero Maria Makedenge, has returned to a heroic welcome in school.
The boy posted a video of his return to school on his social media handle, with a note of appreciation for ‘the love and support’ being shown to him.
The teen dressed in his school uniform and a pullover, with an earring in his left ear, breezed into his school premises, beaming with smiles.
His screaming mates rushed out of their classes to welcome him back to school after the scandal that rocked the entire nation.
His mates, both male and female, took turns to hug the teen and later massed around him for a group picture.
The teen had someone following him to capture the scenes, and he later posted the video with a caption: “I appreciate the love and support that comes from you guys”.
It would be recalled that social media was recently seized by the video of the schoolboy in very explicit video with his former Mathematics teacher who relocated to the United States of America.
During the teacher’s visit to the family home of her boyfriend, who is a tenant in the boy’s household in the Glen View area of Harare, she got involved in intimate activities with the 16-year-old.
Court documents indicated that the incident occurred on August 2, when the woman reportedly approached the teenager in his bedroom.
The boy allegedly later told investigators that he was coerced into the encounter by the woman. He also claimed Maria promised to help him relocate to the United States if he remained silent.
Netizens, however, wondered if there was any coercion, considering the eagerness with which the student was engaging with the older woman in the clip.
Zimbabwean law sets the age of consent at 18, making any sexual activity with a 16-year-old illegal regardless of claimed consent.
