Residents of Salvation Road, near the Oke-Padre/Ogunpa area in Ibadan, were left stunned after a suspected thief jumped from a two-storey building in a desperate bid to escape a mob.
The dramatic incident, which was captured on video and quickly went viral online, has sparked reactions from locals who say theft in the area has become increasingly frequent.
Eyewitnesses reported that the suspect had been cornered by residents when he made the dangerous leap to avoid being beaten.
Once he lands on the next floor, he rises to his feet and makes a move to run. One of those pursuing him hurled what appears to be a block at him from above and hit him on the head as onlookers scream in horror..
The suspected thief crashes to the ground, and he is not seen again as some community residents rushed towards the building.
It is not known if he survived the ordeal or if he was later handed over to the police.
Oke-Padre is known for its tough approach to crime, and residents say the suspect’s leap was a last-ditch attempt to avoid severe mob action.
The video has attracted wide reactions from netizens. Some found humour in it, while others cautioned against jungle justice.
