Graduate runs mad after ditching man who sponsored her education – Ugandan beauty queen
Ugandan beauty queen and influencer, Doreen Kabareebe, has stirred reactions online after attributing the mental illness of a young graduate to her refusal to marry the man who sponsored her university education.
In a now‑viral post, Kabareebe wrote:
“A young lady in Nwoya ran mad after refusing to marry the man who paid for all her University Studies.”
According to the post, the woman’s relatives are accusing the would‑be suitor of bewitching her after she apparently started behaving abnormally following the rejection of her sponsor’s marriage proposal.
The report has ignited a heated debate on social media. Some users argue that it was wrong to accuse the sponsor of having anything to do with the illness of the young woman.
Others argue that if a man sponsors a woman through school, refusing a marriage proposal could be seen as betrayal — and thus the woman “owed” him a commitment.
Yet some netizens insist that sponsoring someone’s education should not automatically bind them to marriage, stressing that every adult has the right to choose freely.
Some others called for the treatment of the woman for what they called a treatable ailment rather than creating an agenda out of it.
