RCCG takes medical outreach to remote village in Ogun

The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Lagos Province 21, has conducted a free medical outreach in Ikanna Olopa, a remote village in Ogun State, providing basic healthcare to residents who previously had little to no access to qualified medical services.

The outreach was organised as part of the practicals of the graduating students of the RCCG School of Missions, Province 21 (Region 59) on November 29, 2025.

It drew villagers from Ikanna Olopa as well as neighbouring settlements such as Oke Igbala, Ikanna Balogun and Ikanna Onijapa.

Ikanna Olopa consists of approximately 10 houses, most of which are constructed from mud. Only the home of the local chief (Baale) is built with cement blocks, highlighting the level of underdevelopment and the community’s distance from formal healthcare services.

Adults and Children receive care from senior doctors

Two senior medical doctors — one from a major Lagos State general hospital and another from private practice, and supported by other medical professionals — were deployed for the outreach.

They conducted medical examinations, consulted with villagers, diagnosed common ailments, and distributed free medications.

For some of the beneficiaries, it was their first-ever interaction with qualified medical professionals.

Typically, residents rely on patent medicine stores in Abeokuta or other towns — often visiting only when ailments become severe due to cost and distance.

Children, the elderly, pregnant women and working adults were all attended to. Cases treated included malaria, respiratory infections, gastrointestinal issues, minor injuries and untreated chronic conditions.

Part of ongoing rural missions by RCCG Province 21

The outreach reflects the long-standing commitment of RCCG’s missions department to underserved rural communities.

Over the years, Lagos Province 21’s School of Missions and partnering parishes have consistently reached remote areas of Nigeria.

Past activities include village evangelism and medical support, distribution of essentials such as food, clothing and hygiene items; health awareness campaigns on sanitation, malaria prevention and maternal care and short-term mission trips to hard-to-reach communities

The School of Missions under Region 59 is known for mobilising trained missionaries, volunteer medical workers, and evangelism teams to rural settlements where government services are scarce or nonexistent. Their activities typically target villages with poor access to clinics, unstable transportation links and limited infrastructure.

Community gratitude and impact

Residents of Ikanna Olopa expressed deep appreciation, noting that several ailments they had endured for months — sometimes years — had finally been addressed.

The Baale of Ikanna Olopa thanked RCCG Province 21 for what he described as “life-saving intervention,” appealing for more regular visits as many residents still face barriers to seeking treatment outside the village.

RCCG’s broad mission footprint

Beyond Province 21, the RCCG as a denomination has a long history of rural missions and humanitarian outreaches nationwide. Its health-focused initiatives across different provinces often include medical consultations, laboratory screenings, medication distribution, eye tests, blood pressure and diabetes checks, and health education — all provided free of charge.

A lifeline for forgotten communities

For Ikanna Olopa and the two neighbouring villages, the visit by RCCG Province 21’s School of Missions was more than a one-day event — it was a rare moment of inclusion for communities often overlooked by mainstream development.

Organisers say the province plans to intensify its rural missions in the coming year, with more scheduled interventions in small settlements across the country.
