A trending video by a motorist has shown the aftermath of an alleged mass abduction of travellers by armed bandits on the Owerri-Aba Expressway earlier this morning.

The motorist who was travelling in his own car filmed the road and showed buses packed in the middle of the road with their doors flung open.

Speaking a mixture of Igbo and English, the motorist said, “Everybody in these vehicles has been kidnapped. Including this one in front of me. Everybody has been kidnapped.”

The motorist showed a total of four empty passenger buses left on the road with their doors left ajar and personal effects such as slippers and bags lying around.

All the occupants are believed to have been taken into the bush by armed bandits.

Some have loads piled on top of them, suggesting that some of the occupants were traders transporting goods to the market.

A separate video by another motorist shows the aftermath of the abduction of the 14 passengers of another bus abandoned on the same Owerri-Aba expressway.

Other travellers who narrowly missed running into the hands of the bandits can be seen thanking God by the roadside.

Yet another video by a different motorist shows a severely damaged Lexus SUV abandoned by the roadside.

There were what appear to be bullet holes on the car. The windshield and some of the windows were shattered. The owner of the SUV is not in sight and is believed to have fallen victim to the bandits as well.

A man believed to have witnessed the incident is seen sitting down, while holding his head with his two hands, apparently in shock.
