The police in Ondo State have arrested a female student of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Queen Sodo, for luring her childhood friend into her room to be raped by her accomplice.
The accomplice, also a student of the institution, has been arrested.
According to a statement by the spokesperson of the Ondo Police Command, Olayinka Ayanlade, the victim, a 20-year-old female student, was invited by her secondary schoolmate to her residence off campus.
They are both students of the university and have maintained their friendship since secondary school.
When the victim arrived, her friend offered her a drug-laced drink, which immediately knocked her off.
Queen Sodo, 19, then left her friend sleeping in the room and summoned her accomplice, a male student of the same school.
The male co-conspirator then sexually molested the helpless student while Queen Sodo mounted watch outside the apartment.
The victim, apparently, woke up too soon and challenged the man she found on top of her, leading to some commotion in the room.
This drew the attention of a neighbour who quickly realised what was happening and intervened to rescue the victim from the situation.
Ayanlade said the molested student was taken to a hospital for medical attention while the suspects were arrested.
The police spokesman said the two suspects had confessed to their involvement and the specific roles they played in the crime.
He added that the investigating team had obtained crucial information to aid in the prosecution of the case.
Ayanlade said relevant and corroborated exhibits relating to the crime were recovered at the scene.
This includes the bottle of the drug-laced drink, which he promised would be transferred for toxicology examination.
He said efforts were ongoing to transfer the suspects to the Gender Desk Office, Akure, for further discreet investigation and subsequent prosecution.
Ayanlade advised parents to warn their children against trusting friends blindly.
