The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has removed a corps member, Oyaje Daniel, from his duty post at the Judeen International School, Annexe Section, Mando, Kaduna, after a viral online comment he made about his female students sparked widespread outrage.

Daniel, serving in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, ran into trouble when he took to social media to make sexually suggestive comments about the female students under his care.

In one of his posts, he wrote: “Omoh any female students wey no coordinate themselves I go knack dem big k*la.

How you go dey SS3 but you carry ny*nsh  and b**bs wey pass 400L uni lady?? (in inserted smiling emoticons with love signs) Habba, it is wrong nah”.

The post was sighted by children’s rights advocates who instantly flagged it. The post went viral and caught the attention of his secondary employers, Judeen International School, which promptly requested his redeployment from their school.

The NYSC State Disciplinary Committee summoned Daniel for questioning. He was accompanied to the session by his CDS President.

The NYSC subsequently withdrew Daniel from his PPA and redeployed him to the NYSC Headquarters in Kaduna to complete his service year under strict supervision. 

A probe has been launched into his activities at his former PPA to determine whether any misconduct occurred beyond the online statement.

The NYSC said if any wrongdoing was uncovered, he would be reported to the relevant authorities for prosecution.

His colleagues who posted similarly inappropriate comments under the viral thread are also being probed.

Daniel had also published an apology on his page, attributing the post to a moment of thoughtlessness.

He wrote:

“I, Oyaje Daniel, with the state code KD/25A/0494 currently serving in the Igabi Local Government of Kaduna state. I made this careless and unguided comment two (2) weeks ago, without thinking it through. It was intended to be a joke but that was cruel of me, which I later deleted but was already recorded. I acted without thinking through and I wish I could undo and retrace my statement. 

I admit that I have portrayed myself to be an evil person and that nothing I say would convince you. I have betrayed the trust, confidence,and faith of those who have regards for me. The disappointment and shame I’ve caused due to my unfiltered words cannot be erased by apologies. 

While I own my fault and consequences of my unguided comment. I will emphasize again that I’m not that kind of a person, I was just carelessly joking. I have used my voice and platform as advocacy against Girl child harassment and abuse. our young girls are to be protected, guided, not exploited. I stand against any form of harassment and abuse of our female gender. 

Before my enrollment into NYSC scheme, I have been in teaching field for over 8 years now since 2014 and never I was accused of molesting any of the female students in my care. 

On this note, I apologize to this persons for letting you down.

  1. NYSC Nigeria who gave me this opportunity to serve here.
  2. Kaduna State Government and Igabi LG where I’m serving.
  3. Every women that felt insulted by my comment, especially those that have been victims to such abuse before by trusted superiors. It was not intentional
  4. I apologize to my family for dragging their name in the dust.
  5. I apologize to my church and body of Christ for wrongly representing the faith.
  6. I apologize to Nigeria, for not promoting the image of a good citizen.
  7. I apologize to my future self, for staining the name.
  8. My sincerely apology to my past and present students whom I have disappointed through this behavior. I was suppose to be good role model in character and in words
  9. To my PPA Judeen International School, Annex Section Mando Kaduna whom I’ve failed through this careless statement 

Lastly, I am ready and willing to cooperate with all relevant authorities with any necessary information regarding this Issue In order to clear my name and my Integrity. Attach to this post Is my contact. 

Once again my sincere apology to those whom I have failed but I believe at the end the Truth shall triumph.

NYSC said Daniel’s case should serve as a warning to others on the consequences of irresponsible social media use.
