A young lady, Funke Obatuyi, has taken to social media to call for assistance after her father, Ayotunde Obatuyi, who attended her convocation at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), was abducted by armed bandits at Kabba, Kogi State.

Funke said her father travelled all the way from Abuja to Akure in Ondo State and was with her for her convocation ceremony.

She also posted a picture of her father beaming with smiles beside her as she donned her academic gown.

Funke said her father was kidnapped two days after, when he was returning to his base.

The bandits are demanding N10 million to release the old man, according to her.

She said the man was tied and was being tortured so he could mobilise his own ransom.

Funke shared a clip of her discussion with her father, who passed the phone over to one of the bandits for further negotiation.

Funke’s cry for help was amplified by another X user, @Mkhay21, who said she was his classmate.

 Funke’s distress tweet reads:

“My dad was kidnapped on his way back to Abuja after my convocation😭

They are demanding for 10m ransom😭😭😭😭

I need your help, with any support🙏😭

My dad is being tortured right now and tied since yesterday

My dad was kidnapped at Kabba, Kogi, on his way back from my convocation. The kidnappers are demanding a huge sum. I managed to speak with him; he’s being tortured and pleaded with us to act fast.”

In a follow up tweet, she wrote:

“Please keep my family in your prayers.

Any support is not small”

My feelings are numb

My heart is heavy

He only travelled down to celebrate me.

He was happy I was graduating, we danced together

He is been tied down and beaten right now. He said he is in the bush, ‘he is weak pls act fast’”
