The police have arrested a 20-year-old armed robbery suspect, Chigbo Umeugokwe, for abducting and r@ping a 13-year-old girl in Umuezeiyi Village, Achina, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Anambra State police command spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, in a statement on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, said the suspect allegedly armed himself with a locally made single-barrel gun and an axe and attacked a shop in the community.
Umeugokwe committed the offence on 29th October 2025. He reportedly stole the sum of N30,000 from the shop and took along with him a 13-year-old girl.
The suspect allegedly took the minor to a nearby bush where he had forced intimacy with her.
Chigbo Umeugokwe reportedly used a red T-shirt to hide his identity, but he was apprehended with the assistance of community members and a local security outfit.
Items recovered from Umeugokwe include one locally made single-barrel gun, a small axe and a red polo shirt used as a face mask, according to the police spokesperson.
Ikenga said the suspect confessed to the crime and will be arraigned tomorrow, November 19, 2025.
