One woman has lost her life, while six others sustained serious injury in an automobile accident along the Majidun area of Ikorodu, Lagos.
The accident occurred on Sunday morning, according to the officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA)
LASTMA Public Relations Officer, Adebayo Taofiq, said in a statement that the accident involved a Volkswagen commercial bus with the number plate EPE 494 XM and a stationary tipper truck.
He said the commercial bus was conveying a group of people to a function in Ikorodu when the driver lost control of the vehicle following brake failure.
The driver of the commercial bus reportedly rammed into the stationary tipper truck at top speed..
Taofiq disclosed that preliminary investigation established that the ill-fated commercial bus, chartered to convey passengers to a scheduled programme in Ogijo, had experienced brake failure.
He disclosed that the truck had been parked by the roadside for a diesel purchase.
TAOFIQ disclosed that the impact was so massive that one of the passengers died on the spot, while five other female occupants of the bus sustained severe and life-threatening injuries.
He said the victims were rushed to a nearby hospital, while the deceased victim’s body was taken to the Ikorodu General Hospital for formal preservation and documentation.
Taofiq said the two drivers involved in the collision had been arrested by the police. The driver of the truck reportedly tried to flee from the scene of the accident, but was chased by LASTMA officials and apprehended.
