Armed bandits have struck at the Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School (GGCSS), Maga, in  Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The police said the attack happened about 4:00 a.m. this morning, Monday, November 17, 2025.

Survivors reportedly claimed that the men carried sophisticated weapons during the attack.

The  Vice-Principal of the school, Hassan Makuku, was reportedly shot dead, while a security guard, identified as Ali Shehu, was wounded.

A total of 25 female students were taken away by the hoodlums, according to the police.

The police, assisted by the military and local vigilante groups, are currently combing nearby forests with a view to rescuing the abducted students.

The Kebbi State Police Commissioner, CP Bello M. Sani, assured that his men are committed to protecting lives and bringing the perpetrators to justice.

The state government said it was closely monitoring the situation. The Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Tafida, has been dispatched to the school.

The government called on residents to remain calm as security operatives work on resolving the issues.

Northwestern Nigeria has remained the hotbed of banditry and kidnapping for ransom in recent times.

The hoodlums frequently target schools for kidnappings.

The perpetrators of this latest act seem not to be affiliated with Boko Haram or IS-WAP militants.

Authorities have simply identified them as armed bandits.
