A Nigerian professor at Southern University, New Orleans, United States of America, Samuel Eweni, has been stabbed to death by his son, Chukwuebuka Eweni.

Chukwuebuka struck his father, killing him, before attacking his two sisters, but they survived the attack.

Family members told WWL Louisiana that Eweni was a well-respected computer science professor at Southern University.

It was learnt that one of the two sisters has been released from the hospital, while the other one remains under treatment. But her case is not severe.

Family sources said that Chukwuebuka had a long history of mental illness but had never been violent.

Chukwuebuka reportedly left his family home after the attack and went to New Orleans East Hospital, where he would routinely check himself in for mental help.

The hospital staff had no idea he had committed a crime and transferred him to a facility in Jefferson Parish.

“Our hearts are with his family, friends, and colleagues during this deeply difficult time,” Dr Bouie said.
