Armed bandits have reportedly shot dead an elderly woman identified as Mrs Elizabeth Olorunshola in Ilafin-Isanlu community, Yagba East Local Government Area of Kogi State, during a long trek to their hideout.

It was gathered that Madam Olorunshola was one of those abducted when the bandits stormed the community on Saturday night, November 8, 2025.

She was reportedly walking along the Ilafin-Isanlu road when the bandits captured her. They shot another victim who apparently tried to run away. 

The bandits took the elderly woman and the shot man with them into the forest to commence a long trek to their hideout, where they would reach out to the relatives of their captives for ransoms.

Sources said the bandits grew impatient with Madam Olorunshola, who could not keep up with the pace of the rest of the pack.

They reportedly shot her and left her to die in the bush. Her body was discovered in the bush on Sunday.

The man who was shot when the struck the previous day was also discovered. He survived the gunshot.

The community has reacted to the killing of Mrs Olorunshola with outrage and panic, with many relocating out of the community and adjoining ones.

Many of the residents of Yagba East took to the streets to protest the unchecked waves of kidnappings and banditry in the area. 

They declared that Ilafin-Isanlu was under siege, with residents afraid of going out or staying indoors.

The President of the Ilafin Development Association (IDA), Mr Idowu Awe, commiserated with the Olorunsholas’ family and the people of the Ilafin community in general over the tragedy. 

He described the incident as disheartening and announced that the elders and leaders of the community were deliberating on what to do to secure the community

The Executive Chairman of Yagba East Local Government Area, Hon. (Dr.) Joshua Dare, Monday, also condemned the attack, describing it as heartbreaking>

He said the culprits would be fished out and punished accordingly.
