LASUSTECH reveals identities of two students killed in auto accident

The Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) released information on the two students of the institution who lost their lives in a motor accident on Saturday at Powerline Junction, inward Ikorodu Roundabout.
A statement signed by the Head of the Directorate of Information and Public Relations of the institution, Olanrewaju Kuye, gave the names of the victims as Oluwaseyitan Afolabi Emmanuel, a newly admitted 200-level Direct Entry student of the Department of Banking and Finance, and Ayomide Jagun, a 300-level student in the Department of Mechatronics Engineering.
The institution said the third person involved in the accident was not their student.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) attributed the accident to brake failure on the part of an unregistered truck loaded with sand.
The truck reportedly collided with the vehicle the students were in and other vehicles, claiming lives in the process.
Kuye added that LASUSTECH Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olumuyiwa Odusanya, had taken charge of the situation to ensure a proper response and support for all affected parties.
The VC had reportedly contacted the General Hospital, Ikorodu, the police, the Dean of Student Affairs, Director of Health Services, the heads of the affected departments, and the Deans of the respective Colleges to coordinate assistance for the bereaved families.
The statement also revealed that the Students’ Representative Council was actively involved in all the arrangements being made to support the bereaved families.
LASUSTECH lamented that the young lives, full of promise and potential, were cut short in the most cruel circumstances.
“Our hearts ache with the families and the university community. We pray that our beloved students rest in peace and that God grants the families the fortitude to bear the irreparable losses,” the institution said.
It would be recalled that a total of three people died in the accident, while seven others sustained injuries.
