Barau FC player, Nana Abraham, was attacked by Katsina United fans during a Nigeria Premier Football League match on Saturday, Nov. 8, 2025.
The incident allegedly happened shortly after Katsina United fans poured onto the pitch to protest the equaliser by Orji Kalu in the 69th minute.
Katsina United Football Club, however, is contesting the report, insisting that no one was injured during or after the match.
A viral photo of Abraham lying on the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium pitch with a bloody neck suggests that the reports are not unfounded.
Witnesses insisted that Katsina United Football Club fans were displeased by Barau’s equaliser and showed their displeasure by invading the pitch.
Barau FC also confirmed the attack on its player in a post on their official X handle on Saturday.
The club in a match update on X wrote, “70′ The match is temporarily halted following an attack on Barau FC player, Nana Abraham. Katsina United | 1-1 | Barau FC.”
Officials stopped the match for a while, and security operatives intervened to restore order. Some minutes later, the match continued and ended 1–1 after regulation time.
In a statement issued online, Katsina United Football Club condemned the news media that carried the violence.
The club’s Media Director, Nasir Gide, described the reports as “entirely baseless and a deliberate attempt to tarnish the club’s image.”
Gide conceded that there was tension due to some controversial officiating decisions. He claimed it never went out of hand as security operatives maintained order.
The Media Director claimed that none of the Katsina United Football Club fans entered the main pitch.
He complained that the negative reports could harm the club and football development in the state and Nigeria.
Gide also carpeted Barau FC for amplifying the false reports and said it would allow the League Management Company to investigate.
He said the club had demanded a retraction and public apology and warned that legal action if the report was not retracted.
The media Director said Katsina United football club would continue to promote professionalism, discipline, and fair play both on and off the pitch.
