Edo woman regrets housing her 18-year-old cousin after he killed her son for money ritual (Video)

Cousin went out to price Benz C-300

An Edo woman has cried for justice after her 18-year-old cousin, identified as Otega, who was staying with her, lured out her 12-year-old son, Emiliano, and killed him for a money ritual.

Emiliano’s mother took to social media to expose the crime after she realised that the police were trying to bury the case following pressure from the families of the suspects.

The victim’s mother said her mother’s sister, who stayed in Warri, called her to request that she accommodate her son, Otega, in her house in Benin, so he could learn a trade.

She said she agreed because her husband was away and she was the only one in the house with her children. The boy started living with her.

First sign of trouble from Otega

In April, Otega allegedly stole the sum of N149,000 belonging to her host and was found out.

The victim’s mum said she tried to send the boy away at the time, but his mother pleaded with her to continue to accommodate him, and she agreed after much pleading.

On September 16, 2025, Otega reportedly took out Emiliano after the two of them shared a meal from the same plate. He did not return with the boy, claiming he did not know his whereabouts.

The mum searched everywhere and then reported to the police, who asked her to return after 24 hours.

Shortly after, the phone of the missing boy was used to chat with the mother and father, asking for N30,000 ransom for the boy.

The money was sent to the account specified, but the boy was not seen by the parents.

She rushed back to the police station after 24 hours.  The victim’s mother said the police suggested that, with the meagre amount demanded, it was probably the boy trying to collect money from the parents. But the mother said she told them he was only 12 years old and was not capable of doing that.

The police assured her they would work on it.

Suspects demand more money to release Emiliano

The woman said the people chatting with the missing boy’s phone reached out again to ask for N800,000. She said she told them she would send N900,000 provided they allowed her to speak with Emiliano.

The distraught mother said the people claimed Emiliano was sleeping. She said that was how she knew they had done something to him, because Emiliano would not sleep in the afternoon unless seriously sick.

She rushed back to the police with the new information.

The police then tracked the missing boy’s number to Ughelli, Delta State. The victim’s mother said she told the police she did not have any relatives his son could be staying with in Ughelli, but they followed the tracker to the location. It turned out to be the house of Otega’s mother.

Otega was not at home, but his mother told the team that he was there before they arrived. They waited for him and apprehended him.

According to Emiliano’s mother, Otega continued to deny knowing the whereabouts of the missing boy.

Confessions

She further narrated that Otega continued to deny for another week until he was tortured, and he named two of his accomplices.

The police were able to first apprehend one and later the second suspect. They also succeeded in locating the lifeless body of the boy in a well.

He was allegedly tied hand and foot and thrown into a well. The victim’s chest was also slit open to extract some organs.

An autopsy has been ordered to ascertain what was obtained from the body of the victim.

Suspect’s fixation with Mercedes-Benz C-300

Otega was said to have been moving around auto-dealerships in Benin asking for the price of a Benz C-300.

He reportedly told his mother that he would be returning home with a Mercedes-Benz C300.

Emiliano said the families of the other two suspects, Osayande and Destiny, have been pressuring the police to release their sons, and the police were buckling.

She called on Nigerians to come to her rescue to ensure the killers of her son are duly punished.
