Accident on Otedola Bridge
File: Multiple-vehicle accident on Otedola Bridge

A speeding truck crashed into eight vehicles on the Otedola Bridge area of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Wednesday night, sending at least eight people to the hospital.

A statement by the Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos State Police Command disclosed this, adding that the truck was leaving Lagos when the accident occurred.

According to the statement, the vehicles impacted by the truck included two 18-seater passenger buses, five cars, and one minibus.

Eight occupants of the impacted vehicles sustained serious injuries and had to be rushed to the Accident and Emergency centre, Old Toll Gate, for medical attention.

The Otedola incident is coming after another truck crushed a tricyclist to death in the Ekoro part of the state in the early hours of Wednesday.

A few days earlier, five trucks collided with each other on the Kara Bridge along the same Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, killing at least four people.

The incident happened in the early hours of Thursday, October 30, 2025, on Kara Bridge.

The vehicles involved included a heavy-duty long truck, a 40-foot containerised trailer, a mini truck laden with cartons of biscuits, another truck carrying sardines, and a tow truck.

Mechanical fault and reckless driving were fingered for the tragic accident. The tractor head of one of the trucks reportedly detached and fell into the water below the bridge, trapping the driver and his assistant.

The accident caused a severe traffic snarl that kept travellers and other commuters on the road for hours.
