Live-band founder, Akiin Shuga dies in Canada

Popular Nigerian musician and live-band founder, Akinloye Tofowomo, better known as Akiin Shuga, has passed away in Canada.

His family broke the sad news in a statement today, November 3. The statement indicated that that musician breathed his last on October 30, 2025, in New Brunswick, Canada.

Akin Shuga was aged 50 at the time of his passing.

The family referred to the late Shuga as a custodian of rhythm, culture, and the spirit of performance.

They said the late musician provided quality entertainment over three decades, on stage and in mentorship.

The family noted that Shuga redefined what it meant to lead a band with grace, mastery, and purpose.

They described him as an inspiration to countless admirers at home and abroad and both an institution and a king in his art.

The family requested privacy as they deal with the loss of their loved one.

They disclosed that dates and arrangements for memorial observances, will be communicated in later.

The late musician hailed from Ile-Oluji, Ondo State. At the age of 5, he was stricken by polio, but he did not let it define him.

He rose above his physical challenges to emerge as one of Nigeria’s most accomplished live-band performers and music entrepreneurs.

He established the Shuga In 1998, and has led the band to perform at many highbrow events across the world.
