Step-mum held by police

A 17-year-old girl, Sarah Aghahowa, has died of suspected food poisoning in Benin City, Edo State, days after being offered admission into the university.
Aghahowa allegedly took ill and died after eating in their apartment in the Jemilla Community in Edo State on October 21, 2025.
According to a Facebook post by Emanaha Chizoba Miracle, Aghahowa just secured admission into the University of Delta State, Agbor, Delta State, to study Psychology.
Family members and community residents are pointing accusing fingers at the stepmother, considering that she was always having issues with the young lady.
One resident claimed she sat near the woman on an occasion last December, and she was continuously complaining that the deceased did nothing around the house.
There is, however, no direct evidence to back up the claims being made. The sort of food poisoning that allegedly killed the deceased is expected to be ascertained when the result of the toxicology test conducted by medical personnel comes out.
The police have, in the meantime, reportedly taken the step-mother into custody, as they investigate the case.
