The police in Ogun, working with other security operatives, have swooped on suspected kidnappers in their den in the Onipanu area of the state, killing two of them and rescuing their victim.
The Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, CSP Omotola Odutola, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.
Odutola disclosed that one Alhaji Hassan Atoyebi was attacked in his home on October 27, 2025, at about 8:14 pm.
The suspected kidnappers switched off the man’s generator to lure him out of his home.
When the generator went off, Atoyebi and another resident came out of the building to investigate what had happened, only to be ambushed by the suspects.
The suspects then accessed the building where they stole some valuables, including N900,000 in cash, a PoS machine, three mobile phones, a power bank, and keys to a Highlander and Corolla vehicle, before taking away Atoyebi.
Once in their den, the suspects demanded a ransom of N30 million before they could release Atoyebi.
The family contacted the police to report the incident, leading the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, to instruct his team to hunt down the suspects.
A team of officers from the Anti-Crime Section, Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Surveillance Team, Vigilante Group, So-Safe Corps, and local hunters went after the kidnappers.
The team traced the suspects to their hideout along the creek, where they engaged them in a shootout.
Two of the suspects were reportedly felled while the others managed to escape.
Odutola said the team safely rescued Atoyebi and recovered his mobile phones and vehicle keys from the den of the suspected kidnappers.
The police spokesperson said Ogunlowo commended his team for their gallantry and synergy with the other security teams.
