A total of 21,193 Canadian Dollars (about N22m) has been raised for the family of the 19-year-old Nigerian medical student, Marvellous Ugochukwu, killed by an out-of-control truck while waiting for a bus to her place of work in Canada.
Ugochukwu was waiting at a bus shelter along Dewdney Avenue near Elphinstone Street in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, on her way to her restaurant job on Sunday, October 12, 2025 when the tragic accident happened.
A speeding truck reportedly veered off the road and smashed into the bus shelter, killing Ugochukwu.
The police hinted that the truck ran a red light, collided with a car, before crashing into the bus shelter where Marvellous was standing.
Miracle Ugochukwu, the elder sister of the victim, said she learnt of the horrible accident after she stepped out to look for her when she did not hear from her and she did not get to work.
The distraught sister said she was shown Marvellous’ passport at the scene of the accident.
She said her sister left the house happy in the morning, while going out to work on Sunday, October 12, 2025. She worked at a restaurant that was 12 minutes from their apartment.
Fellow Nigerians and others described her as a bright, cheerful, and kind-hearted young woman.
Marvellous Ugochukwu was a student at the University of Regina and was working to augment her tuition fees.
She had disclosed her dream of becoming a neurosurgeon to her loved ones and worked diligently towards it. She took a major step towards realising her dream by moving to Canada in 2023 to study medicine. She was accommodated by her elder sister, Miracle.
A member of the Nigerian community in Canada, Perpetual Kanu, opened a GoFundMe account for the family of the deceased on October 15.
When Microsecondnews checked the account on Thursday, it had garnered $21,193, less than a thousand shy of the target of $22k CAD.
