15 rescued, many trapped, as two-storey building collapses in Lagos

A total of 15 people have been successfully rescued while more people are still being looked for under the rubble after a two-storey building collapsed in Lagos in the early hours of Monday.

The news of the sad incident emerged from a situation report released by the Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye.

The collapsed structure was  residential building at 54 Cole Street, near Cemetery Bus Stop in the Oyingbo area of Lagos.

Reports indicated that the structure had earlier been marked for demolition after an assessment showed that it was distressed.

Adeseye said the Sari-Iganmu Fire Station team was alerted to the incident and officials rushed to the scene about 12:20 a.m. on Monday, October 27, 2025.

She said the occupants of the building were all inside when it came crashing down on them.

The fire service director said 15 people, including seven men, four women and four children, had been evacuated from the rubble with injuries.

She added that they had been rushed to the Federal Medical Centre in Ebute‑Metta and General Hospital, Odan in Lagos Island.

Rescue efforts aare still ongoing at the time of filing this report.
