
A man believed to be under the influence of alcohol has lost his life after he crashed his car in a lone accident at Alaka Under Bridge, Surulere, Lagos.
Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) 24-hour Night Operations Squad was alerted about the accident around 11:45 p.m.
The squad said the driver of the navy blue Toyota Camry was speeding inward Iponri when he lost control near the Alaka Under Bridge.
Eyewitness account indicated that the vehicle with registration number EKY 311 GK somersaulted several times, killing the driver instantly.
LASTMA General Manager, Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki, disclosed that forensic evidence from the crash site confirmed that the deceased was intoxicated, which impaired his sense of judgment and possibly his reaction time.
He thanked the night patrol team for their swift response to the incident and for assisting in preventing secondary accidents.
The team also alerted officers from the Bode Thomas Police Division, who documented the scene and released the victim’s remains to his wife and family.
He disclosed that the victim’s phone was used to reach his family.
The LASTMA boss used the opportunity to warn motorists to stay away from alcohol while driving because of its fatal consequences.
