
A 17-year-old Nigerian boy, Emmanuel Awobiyi, is facing a murder charge in Indianapolis, United States of America.
Awobiyi was accused of killing a 38-year-old man, identified as William Deaton, on the northwest side of Indianapolis.
The incident that landed him in trouble happened on September 30, 2025, at the 5200 block of Austrial Drive, near the 56th Street exit.
The suspect reportedly had an altercation with a woman, leading to him drawing a gun on her.
She reportedly screamed for help, drawing the attention of William E. Deaton II, who drove to help her.
William got close before realising Awobiyi was armed. CCTV captured him running away from Awobiyi out of the camera frame before gunshots were fired.
The CCTV captured Awobiyi running away from the back of the house where the shooting took place.
He fled the scene before the police arrived.
MPD homicide detectives interviewed people around the scene and canvased for witnesses, video footage and forensic evidence.
Detectives were able to positively identify Awobiyi through the video footage. An eyewitness confirmed that he was indeed the shooter.
The suspect was arrested on Monday, October 20, after he was found walking in the neighbourhood.
A search of his home yielded a gun wrapped in a plastic bag inside the tank of a toilet.
