President Bola Tinubu has made sweeping changes within the top ranks of the Nigerian Armed Forces, affecting the service chiefs.
The president’s Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, made the announcement in a statement.
The president has appointed General Olufemi Oluyede as the new Chief of Defence Staff, to replace General Christopher Musa.
The new Chief of Army Staff is Major-General W. Shaibu, while Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke becomes the new Chief of Air Staff.
For the Navy, Rear Admiral I. Abbas was named the new Chief of Naval Staff.
The changes did not affect the Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye.
Tinubu thanked the outgoing Service Chiefs for their “patriotic service and dedicated leadership” during their tenure.
The president then called on the newly appointed officers to justify the trust placed in them by serving with professionalism, honour and unwavering commitment to national unity and security.
Tinubu noted that the nation’s armed forces must remain disciplined, alert and united in order to confront emerging security challenges across the country.
The changes take immediate effect.
