Lady who celebrated call to bar at 56 in September dies in domestic violence

A woman, Felicia Temitope Odu, who celebrated her call to the bar at the age of 56 last month, has allegedly been beaten to death by her husband.

Barrister Odu was widely celebrated on social media for determination and grit after she posted pictures of her call to the Nigerian Bar at 56 in September.

An NGO devoted to issues of violence, @toniabruisedbutnotbroken, reported that the mother of three was involved in an altercation with her husband.

The issue reportedly degenerated to the point that he allegedly assaulted her, leading to her death in the presence of one of their sons.

Neighbours and others who know the couple said violence is a recurring decimal in the home.

Family members claimed the husband had been beating her since their days of courtship.

Reports further indicated that the late lawyer was the breadwinner of the family. She reportedly built their home and sponsored their children’s education.

The accused husband was arrested after the tragic incident and was detained for only three days.

He has since been released on bail, sparking outrage among members of the public and the legal community.

Family sources said the deceased will be laid to rest tomorrow.

She is expected to be laid to rest tomorrow, according to family sources.
