A South Korean woman is being sought by the police after she accidentally set an apartment building on fire while trying to kill a cockroach.
The fire she inadvertently started led to the death of her neighbour.
People reported that the police in Osan, some 30 miles south of Seoul, have issued an arrest warrant for the woman, who is in her 20s.
The tragic incident happened around 5:30 a.m. on Monday, October 20, after the woman allegedly tried to burn a cockroach with a lighter and a flammable spray inside her apartment.
The fire leapt onto other flammable materials in the apartment and got out of the woman’s control.
Her apartment was razed while smoke filled many apartments in the block. Residents tried to flee by creeping out of the windows into adjacent buildings.
The woman who died in the incident gave birth to her first child two months ago, according to Yonhap.
The Chinese national in her 30s successfully passed her baby to a neighbour in the adjacent building as smoke filled their own apartment..
Her husband first leapt into the adjacent building to join their baby.
However, when it was her turn to leap onto the next building, she slipped and fell five stories, sustaining serious injuries.
She was rushed to the hospital, but she later died there.
The woman who started it all now faces a charge of accidentally starting a fire and causing de@th by negligence.
She reportedly told the police that she had used the method before without an incident.
Police in Osan said investigations were ongoing and that the case would be transferred to local prosecutors once completed.
