A top official of the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA), Mrs Serifat Olubukola Talabi, has been killed by a hit-and-run driver four days before her retirement.
Talabi was planning both her retirement and her 60th birthday anniversary, which were to be held today, October 22, 2025. The invitation has now been swapped with her funeral service invitation.
She served as Director of Procurement in LASSRA during her lifetime.
The late director was said to be crossing the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway near the Redemption City of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) in Mowe, Ogun State, when a speeding vehicle hit her.
Talabi’s combined Thanksgiving for Retirement and 60th Birthday celebration were to be held at the NERDC Conference Centre in Ikeja, Lagos.
LASRRA expressed deep sorrow over the loss in a statement issued by the agency’s Public Relations Officer, Basirat Lawal.
She described Talabi’s death as a “huge loss” that had thrown the staff members of the organisation into shock.
Lawal disclosed that she was in the office on Friday, when finishing touches were put to arrangements for her retirement ceremony today.
The PRO said she was supposed to retire on October 13, when she actually turned 60, but it was postponed till today because their General Manager was away.
“The agency will be present at her burial,” Lawal said.
Talabi joined LASRRA in 2018 and made steady career progress until she became a Director in 2025.
Her colleagues described her as humble, diligent and deeply committed to her duties until her final day in service.
