A United Kingdom-based Nigerian mother, Melissa Oti and her family have permanently relocated from the United Kingdom back to Nigeria after six years abroad.
Oti posted a video of their relocation on TikTok on Wednesday, October 16, 2025.
In the video, she explained that it was not a forced move, but a choice. According to her, they have British passports and also have permanent residency in Canada.
Oti said their decision to return to Nigeria had nothing to do with immigration or financial struggles.
She shared a video of their travel back to Nigeria and a glimpse of their expansive home in Nigeria.
“We’re British citizens and also Canadian permanent residents, so it’s not like we had to leave. We just decided it was time to go home — to Japada,” she said in the video.
Oti said they sold their belongings, with the exception of the things that mattered, and said their final goodbyes to a country they had called home for six years.
“When I say goodbye, I mean forever goodbye to the UK,” Oti said.
She also disclosed that they had rented out their properties”.
“Honestly, I don’t think we’ll ever move back to live there. But hey, never say never.”
It is the second major news of relocation back to Nigeria in about two weeks. The family of the popular social media comic, Bukunmi Adelani, The Preacher, also returned to Nigeria after three years in the UK.
Bukunmi and his wife, Ify, said they decided to return to Nigeria so they could raise their kids in a more conducive atmosphere.
They said they decided that the rat race of alternating day and night shifts between husband and wife to care for the children was not for them as a family.
