Two schoolchildren have lost their lives to electric shock while taking shelter from a downpour in Nnewichi, Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Reports indicated that the incident happened at a roadside shop by St. Peter’s Claver Junction and was captured by a nearby CCTV camera.

From the footage of the incident captured by the CCTV camera, a mass of people were under a shelter in front of a shop.

Among them were the two children dressed in their school uniforms. Then suddenly, the two children slump, while other people under the shelter with them scamper in various directions.

A resident near the scene told The Punch the wet bodies of two of the schoolchildren came in contact with a live metal in the place. That was when they were electrocuted, according to the witness.

The resident stated that the shop owner had not opened for business at the time of the incident.

Many of the people in the vicinity were too scared to move near the fallen kids. Some security officers and other passers-by reportedly summoned courage to retrieve the school kids with the aid of rubber gloves.

Their bodies were then evacuated from the scene.

The Anambra State Police Command Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Tochukwu Ikenga, acknowledged receiving the report, but said more information was still being awaited at the time of writing this report.
