A Nigerian-American Assistant professor at John Hopkins University, Wendy Osefo, and her husband, Edward are in trouble in Maryland, USA, after they allegedly filed fraudulent insurance claims.

Wendy, who starred in The Real Housewives of Potomac has been slammed with 16 charges, including seven felonies.

Her husband, Edward, faces 18 charges, nine of which are felonies.

According to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office in Westminster, the couple raised a false alarm about burglary in their residence while they were on vacation.

They claimed that around 80 luxury items, including jewellery, designer clothing, and shoes, valued at over $200,000 were stolen by the burglars.

The Osifos thereafter filed claims with their insurance companies. They allegedly claimed $2,500 for the building and another $450,000 for items lost in the building.

According to court documents obtained by US Weekly, Edward filed claims with two insurance companies about the list of items that had purportedly been stolen.

When asked if any of the items on the list had been returned, he reportedly denied. Meanwhile, investigators found that more than $20,000 worth of the items had been returned to stores by the couple themselves.

It is further alleged that Edward was asked if he had other insurance, but he denied.

Investigators found that he filed claims with Homesite and Jewellers without disclosing that he had also filed a claim with Travellers Insurance.

Despite their outward appearance of affluence, the couple were found to be neck-deep in debt, according to investigators.

The couple’s representative, in a statement shared with ABC News, said they were home with their family and focusing on the legal process.

They expressed appreciation to friends, fans, and colleagues for their support.

The statement said the couple looked forward to their day in court and would love if people respected their privacy.

Wendy is a political commentator and philanthropist. She is a specialist in public policy and community engagement at Johns Hopkins, while her husband is a lawyer.
