A spectacular love story is currently trending, involving a former nun, Lais Dognini, who married an ex-Catholic priest, Jackson Dognini, after they fell in love.

The incident happened in Brazil, but the news has gone global because of the people involved.

The two first met when Lais was in depression, which led her to quit her convent. Father Dognini offered to pray for her to help her deal with the depression, according to Brazilian outlet O Globo.

They kept in constant communication until they developed soft spots for each other.

The former nun and priest then acted on their love in March by exchanging marital vows in secret.

However, on October 7, Lais thought she had had enough of secrecy and broadcast their union on an Instagram Story.

The couple made the clarification that they had genuinely dedicated themselves to their religious vows at the Catholic Church before meeting more than six years ago.

Although they shared the same missionary spaces, they had never said so much as “hello” to each other, O Globo reported.

Jackson spent five years in the seminary training for the priesthood, while Lais lived for two years in a Carmelite convent where she dedicated her life to prayer and service.

They noted that the dynamics of their relationship began to experience a shift after Lais suffered depression and left the convent.

The depression forced her to return to her home to focus on her recovery. It was then that Jackson, who was still in the seminary, messaged her that he would be praying for her.

The ex-priest also expressed the belief that she would one day return to religious life, even as they continued to exchange messages until they became friends.

Years later, Jackson decided to also leave the seminary. He said he took the decision after a long period of reflection about his vocation.

Last year April, the duo began dating, and formally got engaged in October last year. They tied the knot in March.

Sharing the news for the first time on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, Lais wrote, “It doesn’t seem like much, right? But let’s face it, we’re adults now and we know what we want in life.”
