Body of Ghanaian lady found two weeks after she died in her apartment in the US
African community mourns

The African community in the United States of America has been thrown into mourning after the body of a Ghanaian lady, Gertrude Amaniampong, also known as Getty, was found two weeks after her death.
Getty lived alone in a big apartment in the United States, and apparently had little network of people who checked up on her.
A fellow Ghanaian and Kumawood actress, Yaa Nicky, who also lives in the US now, said her heart was drawn to Getty. She had not been reachable for days.
The actress then took off for Getty’s address to check up on her.
Once at the address, the serenity of the environment was strange to her, and her call out was apparently not responded to.
She then contacted the leasing office, which in turn called the police. By the time they opened the apartment, they found that Getty had been dead for at least two weeks.

“Akwatuo mu nsem. I went to check up on her this morning. I was feeling some type of way when I got to her door. I went to the leasing office, and we involved the police. We opened the door, entered, and just to find out she died a couple of weeks ago. RIP Getty”.
A video she posted on TikTok shows police and emergency responders retrieving the body.
The tragic news has sparked conversations on the toll that relocation is taking on the lives of Africans.
Some Africans in diaspora lamented that they faced acute loneliness and emotional turmoil caused by a lack of contact with family members.
Interestingly, Yaa Nicky recently gushed on social media about how she was enjoying her life abroad compared to her experience in Ghana.
She complained that she was unable to make ends meet during her time in Ghana, despite being a famous actress working in the media.
Meanwhile, a Germany-based Ghanaian TikToker, Honam Sardine, has commented on the loss of Getty in horrible circumstances.
She complained that life abroad is difficult because the love and care shown in communities back home are absent abroad.
