Irate youths have beaten up the kind of Idogun community in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo, Oba Moses Bakare, his wife, and his son, identified as Victor.
The youths allegedly pounced on the monarch and his family during the annual New Yam Festival on Friday, October 3, 2025.
Oba Bakare was injured in the attack while his queen was reportedly stripped half-naked.
Sources said the some of the monarch’s subjects had been at loggerheads with him for a while.
It is believed that this undelying grievance was the remote cause of the violence. The immediate cause is still not ascertained.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ondo Command, Olayinka Ayanlade, told The Punch that an investigation had been launched into the incident.
The son of the monarch, Prince Victor, showed the injuries he sustained during the attack.
He said the youths descended on him, his father and mother, adding that they splashed urine and other dirty substances on him.
The monarch in an interview said he had been subjected to continuous hostility by a section of the youths of the town.
He lauded the police for intervening promptly and saving him from further torture in the hands of the youth.
The Oba remarked that the crisis would have become a major conflagration if the police had not intervene.
