Phina Unachukwu Ezeagwu blames UNTH for the passing of her sister, who had an accident but was shabbily treated by UNTH staff.

A lecturer and Research staff at Federal University of Allied Health Science in Enugu, Mrs Phina Unachukwu Ezeagwu, has accused the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Enugu, of killing her sister with nonchalance and negligence.

Pouring out her heart on Facebook, Ezeagwu said the hospital showed no concern for her sister, Charity Unachukwu, who had an accident and was rushed there for treatment.

According to her, the doctor on duty refused to stand up to even look at the patient when she was rushed in.

The doctor reportedly told them there was no bed and continued with what he was doing.

Ezeagwu recounted that her husband and the ambulance driver ran around to get a mattress and a pillow, but the doctor still refused.

She claimed that they had to run around some more and were able to get a bed before the doctor agreed to look at her sister.

The aggrieved woman said her sister was rushed to UNTH at 1 am, but was only admitted at 3 am.

She alleged that they paid for a blood test at the Haematology Department shortly afterwards, but they did not process the blood samples.

According to her, the staff asked her husband to return at 6 am. Efforts to convince them that it was urgent because the patient had lost a significant amount of blood failed.

At 6 am, she said they were told to return at 9 am because that was when work would begin.

The bereaved woman claimed that the team did not process the blood until they showed up at the ward to bleed the patient for fresh blood.

She said they claimed the samples they got had coagulated.

Ezeagwu said the various departments in the hospital worked independently with no one to control them.

She lamented that her sister died at 1:45 pm without receiving the much-needed blood despite paying for it hours before.
