A man, Samuel Amoah, popularly called Biggie, has been slammed with a murder charge over the gruesome killing of Alberta Hagan and her two daughters in Ghana.
Biggie was alleged to be a side dude of Alberta, whose husband was said to be living abroad. The suspect reportedly lived with Alberta and the kids in a house her husband built for the family in Tuba Net-Link Estates, a suburb of Kasoa in the Central Region
A dispute over money occurred between the two, and Biggie ended up viciously hacking Alberta and her children in their mansion.
He absconded after the crime last year. He was only apprehended by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service on September 17, 2025.
The Director-General of the CID, COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, recalled that police men found 39-year-old Alberta Hagan and two of her children dead in their bedroom on May 19, 2024.
According to Donkor, Alberta’s third child was also hacked by the suspect and left for dead, but was still alive when the police arrived.
The smallest of Alberta’s children, a five-month-old baby, was also found lying on a sofa in the apartment by the police.
Donkor said the injured child was taken to the hospital for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were taken to the morgue.
She disclosed that postmortem examinations of the bodies later confirmed that the victims died as a result of severe head injuries caused by assault.
Investigations identified Amoah, who was in a romantic relationship with Ms Alberta Hagan, as the prime suspect.
Donkor confirmed that Alberta was in a romantic relationship with Biggie, but had issues over financial matters.
She did not disclose the nature of the dispute. However, unofficial reports indicated that the late Alberta found out Biggie withdrew her money without her consent.
Alberta allegedly confronted her lover, who reportedly flared up and attacked her and her children in rage.
He thereafter absconded from the entire neighbourhood and relocated to Suhum in the Eastern Region, where police found him.
Alberta’s mother, Nana Sakyibea I (Queenmother of Abotakyi Akuapim), has, however, denied that her daughter was romantically involved with Biggie.
Sakyibea claimed that Biggie was just someone Alberta sent on errands. However, netizens have dug out a video of Biggie sitting closely with Alberta, with her children during an outing.
Many argued that this confirms that the two were dating and generally conducting themselves like a couple.
The police have assured that justice will be served in the case. Biggie was formally arraigned in court on Thursday, September 25, 2025.
His plea was not taken, but a new date of appearance has been fixed for October 13, 2025.
