A Nigerian lady, Rejoice Queen, has taken to social media to announce that she has no regrets leaving her plum job at the United Bank for Africa (UBA) to become a dishwasher in Italy.

On her TikTok page with the handle @freshstartdiaries, Rejoice churns out content showcasing her new life in Italy.

She also shares tips for Nigerians who want to tow her line and relocate to Italy.

One of her videos went viral in August, prompting people to ask more questions about her background.

In a new video, Rejoice confirmed that she indeed quit her job with UBA to relocate to Italy. She added that before joining UBA, she was with another big bank.

The ex-banker said her life in Italy is much better than when she was in Nigeria. According to her, while in Nigeria, she was a banker and a ‘hustler’, juggling other roles. She said she was a model, a seller of men’s clothes and a realtor, but the money was still not enough.

“Life in Nigeria is tough!” she declared.

Apart from pecuniary reasons, Rejoice said she has a better quality of life generally in Italy.

According to her, she has more peace of mind and access to more opportunities for personal growth.

Reflecting on how she decided to quit her job, the ex-banker said she just took a look at her life and decided that she wanted something better for herself than her condition then.

She said she wanted freedom, self-development and the chance to pursue new opportunities overseas.

These were the primary reasons she ditched her job for relocation to Italy, even though she was not sure of a concrete job in the foreign country.

She admitted that it was tough leaving a job others were eager to have, but she was convinced that she would do better once she relocated.

Rejoice Queen said the most important reason she relocated was because it was her father’s dream for her.

She said her father promised to send her abroad once she finished school in Nigeria. However, he died 15 years ago before he could fulfil the promise.

Rejoice said everything she was doing today was not just for herself, but also to honour the memory of her late father.

She said she was convinced her father would be very proud of her.

Reacting to trolls who criticised her for ditching a formal and dignified job to wash plates, Rejoice said every honest job is dignifying.

She argued that fulfilment comes from doing an honest job, and with that also comes freedom, peace of mind, and personal growth.

“Some might think dishwashing is lesser than banking, but dignity comes from giving your best in whatever you do,”  the ex-banker declared.

According to her, since relocating, she had learned humility, patience, and self-reliance—things money cannot buy.
