Lagos residents protest as NURTW tout, Shamelon, allegedly beats ‘busybody’ passenger to death (Videos)

Residents of Lagos Island have protested the excesses of touts popularly known as ‘agbero’ at motor parks and bus stops in Lagos after a popular tout, Adio Shamsudeen (Shamelon), allegedly beat a passenger to death.
The passenger, Ramoni Iman, was reportedly in a commercial tricycle on Lagos Island on September 17, 2025, when Shamelon’s boys stopped the vehicle to collect a levy from the operator.
The operator of the tricycle reportedly resisted Shamsudeen’s boys, saying he had not made any money yet.
The tout and his associates reportedly prevented the tricycle from moving and started rough-handling him.
Iman reportedly decided to intervene.
The motor park touts then shifted their attention away from the tricycle operator and got into a fight with the passenger. They allegedly accused him of interfering in what did not concern him.

After a few hot exchanges, Shamsudeen and his associates reportedly severely assaulted Iman.
A viral video shows Shamelon in a white singlet and trousers, holding the passenger by his shirt and dragging him along with him.
Crowds gathered around the two, but no one attempted to save the man, as Shamsudeen is said to be very popular and feared in the area.
He was also seen punching Iman several times. During the assault, the hapless passenger reportedly slipped into a coma and later died from his injuries.
Someone who claimed to be Iman’s brother posted a picture of Iman with a black eye and said the scan result showed that Iman bled into his brain from the assault on him.
A couple of days earlier, the same tout, said to be a chieftain of the Nigeria Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) on the Lagos Island, also assaulted a dispatch rider.
A video of the assault has also gone viral. He was seen in the video punching the dispatch rider multiple times and pinning him to the ground at some point.
A sea of heads of spectators can be seen in the video, but no one attempted to save the man.
Some elderly women moved closer and appeared to be talking to Shamelon, apparently appealing for calm and cessation of hostilities.
He reportedly claimed that he lost a ring worth two million naira in his altercation with the dispatch rider. This reportedly got him more angry with the rider.
The tout is currently being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti.
Lagos Island residents on Tuesday embarked on a peaceful protest to draw attention to the menace of touts and layabouts in their area.
They called for justice for the passenger whose life was callously cut short. The residents called for an end to violence and extortion of commercial drivers by touts in the area.
The police said the matter was being investigated and all the perpetrators would be brought to book.
