A British husband, Edward Smith, shot his wife dead after she told a relative she was leaving her marriage, a coroner has heard.

Smith reportedly traced his wife, Lisa Smith, to a pub car park and pumped hot bullets into her on Valentine’s Day this year.

He then took his own life after leaving a chilling voice note for someone he called Nana.

Lisa, 43, was fed up with her marriage and wanted out and concluded she would leave. She called her sister on the fateful day to tell her she was done, and took a train from their home in Slough, Berkshire, to stay with family in Kent.

According to Detective Sergeant James Dolby, Lisa was picked up at Orpington station by her friends and sister.

They then drove to the Horseshoe Pub, where they spent some time.

Smith made frantic calls to Lisa and her friends to establish where they were. He found her at the popular pub with friends and her sister.

The aggrieved husband reportedly exchanged hot words with the party and departed. Lisa’s sister, Laura called the man a “narcissist” during the exchange.

At 18.59, the party were on their way out of the pub, with Nancy trying to reverse her Seat onto Harrow Road.

She stopped briefly to speak with Laura, which gave Edward Smith an opportunity to catch up with them.

He drove his car to block Nancy from exiting. With the car immobilised, Edward started to fire at his wife with a handgun.

He fired two shots from inside his own car and then stepped out with his gun stretched out in the direction of his wife.

Kent and Medway Coroner’s Court was told further that the aggrieved husband fired a third shot that fatally hit Lisa in the neck. He made certain she would not survive by stepping closer and firing at close range again.

A total of four shots were fired, with the first two appearing not to have hit the target.

Members of the public raced to the scene and performed CPR on Lisa, and were later joined by emergency services. But she was pronounced dead at 7.42 p.m.

Convinced he had murdered his wife, Edward left the scene and jumped from the Queen Elizabeth II Bridge in Dartford, killing himself.

But before then, he recorded a voice note, saying, “I’ve shot Lisa, she’s dead”.

In another voice note, he expressed hope he would get into heaven with Lisa.

The Coroner Katrina Hepburn, on Wednesday, September 17, ruled Ms Smith’s death as unlawful killing.

She said it was established that there was intent from Edward Smith to kill Lisa or cause her really serious harm.

The wife’s father raised a question of why the party did not run away after the first two shots. The investigators told him it happened very fast.
