A Nigerian man, Soyemi Adesola Olaniyi, has been taken into custody for allegedly abusing his office by having sexual relations with prisoners.
Olaniyi was working as a corrections officer at an Indiana prison when he began romantic relations with some inmates.
Reports indicated that Olaniyi was formally arrested a few days ago in Putnam County, Indiana, after a discreet investigation.
His colleagues at the Indiana Department of Corrections, who had been suspecting his moves around the prison area, carried out the arrest.
According to court records, he now faces multiple charges of sexual misconduct, official misconduct and possession of marijuana.
Authorities said investigations were still ongoing to determine the full extent of his alleged illicit conduct with the inmates.
They said more charges may still be preferred against Olaniyi.
The development has led Indiana prison authorities to carry out a review of security procedures and staff conduct across the board.
