Guinness World Records (GWR) has formally recognised Nigeria’s popular chef, Hilda Baci, for setting a new record for the largest serving of Nigerian jollof rice.
The organisation also confirmed that the cooked food weighed an astonishing 8,780 kilogrammes.
Hilda Baci pulled off the stunt on Friday, September 12, 2025, at Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.
GWR formally announced the new record on X (Twitter) on Monday.
The organisation tweeted: “New record: Largest serving of Nigerian style jollof rice – 8,780 kg (19,356 lb 9 oz) achieved by Hilda Baci and Gino in Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria.”
Chef Baci gained national and international prominence in 2023 when she embarked on a cook-a-thon that put her name in the record books.
A few days ago, she made known her intention to set another record and began to make preparations for it.
She initially planned to use Muri Okunola Park, but changed her mind on the run-up to D-day.
On D-day, she announced that the giant pot for cooking was already at Eko Hotel as early as 4 am.
The buzz she created for the event paid off as the venue was besieged by thousands of fans.
Even GWR caught the excitement as it posted a video from the event with a lively caption: “What’s cookin’? Best of luck to @hildabacicooks, who’s attempting a new record for the largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice today.”
With the success of the stunt, Hilda Baci has further boosted her position as a strong force to reckon with in Nigeria’s food industry.
