Charlotte Winstanley faces up to 10 years in jail for having an affair with a prisoner

A young prison officer, Charlotte Winstanley, is being prosecuted after confessing to dating a violent inmate at HMP Lindholme in South Yorkshire, United Kingdom.

Winstanley, 27, was formally arraigned at Sheffield Crown Court on Thursday, September 11.

She pleaded guilty to dating convicted offender Jabhari Blair, 29, which is a serious misconduct in public office.

During their affair between August and November 2022, Winstanley smuggled a mobile phone and SD cards into the Category C prison for the use of her lover.

The accused officer also confessed to sending a photograph from inside the prison in April last year.

Winstanley was allowed to go on bail pending her sentencing on December 3.

He lover, Blair, is serving a 12-year jail term for being part of a violent street fight. The convict was sentenced in 2014.

Blair appeared at the hearing via video link from Lowdham Grange prison in Nottinghamshire.

The prisoner confessed to having a mobile phone, a USB stick and cannabis. The judge informed him he would be sentenced on his 30th birthday, to which he thanked the judge for ‘the birthday present.’

The judge, Megan Rhys, warned Winstanley to be present in court on time or face arrest.

It is on record that at least 30 female prison officers have been sent packing in the past three years in the UK for having romantic liaisons with inmates.
