Rotimi Oladimeji, now in custody pending deportation

A Nigerian, Rotimi Oladimeji, living illegally in the United States of America (USA) has been arrested by officials of the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency.

Oladimeji, a convict, initially pencilled for deportation after his jail term, was apprehended during a raid on illegal aliens in the country.

The ICE took to X on Monday to announce the arrest of the Nigerian national. The agency said the convict was ordered to pay $1.1 million in restitution before he was taken into custody.

The agency said Oladimeji’s criminal history includes mail and wire fraud, in which he raked in millions of dollars.

Oladimeji was convicted of fraud by a US District Court in December 2023 and jailed for three years.

US Department of Justice said the convict worked with other scammers in Nigeria to dupe a woman who believed she was in a romantic relationship with an animal behaviourist living in St. Louis.

The convict led the victim to believe that the animal behaviourist was going to Dubai in October 2019.

He then led her to believe that he wouldn’t be allowed to leave unless she sent money. The victim obliged.

The syndicate dreamt up more schemes to get money out of the victim in four and five figures.

They managed to dupe the lady out of nearly 1.17 million  USD. Oladimeji, other accomplices such as Adesanya and Akinrinmade, received 20 per cent of the funds they forwarded.

The Nigerian-based members of the syndicate got the balance.

Oladimeji completed his jail term and quietly returned to society against the order of the court, placing him on deportation upon completion of his jail term.
