Nigerians are dragging Pastor David Oyedepo Jnr, the resident pastor of Faith Tabernacle and son of Bishop David Oyedepo, after he claimed he had never had any argument with his wife in 17 years.

Pastor Oyedepo Jnr was preaching in church, establishing that a Christian marriage should be different from other marriages.

He recalled that before he married, he heard a preacher giving a teaching about marriage.

The cleric said the preacher quoted 1 Corinthians 7:28 where it is said that there will be troubles in the flesh for those in marriages.

He said the message troubled him because he was not prepared to enroll in an institution where there would be trouble.

Pastor Oyedepo Jnr said after the man was done, he went for his Bible to see for himself what was written there.

He said he confirmed that it was actually in the Bible, but the preacher omitted the next four words, “But I spare you”.

The cleric said he reflected upon the scripture and concluded that his own marriage would be without troubles because he would be spared.

Oyedepo Jnr said he called his then fiancée and told her that in their union there would not be a single argument.

He said many who heard his resolve concluded that he was still immature and would change his mind after marriage

“Our wedding anniversary was in July, 17 years now, and we have not had one argument. We’ve never had a day where we’re raising our voices,” he told the congregation.

Reactions to Pastor Oyedepo Jnr’s claim

Nigerians have, however, been dragging him online because they think he was not truthful.

On X where the video was posted, @Oyinkitana wrote: “You are a LIAR!!!!!”, while another X user @Ebube_Kene suggested that it was meant to be comedy.

@deleayo87 offered to make excuse for the cleric. He said the pastor meant to say he had never had a fight or serious disagreement with his wife.

@Amina_Eke22 opined that what the cleric had could not be called a healthy relationship if there was no disagreement.

She said what that would suggest was that emotions were being bottled up inside by one of the parties.

The X user said even Jesus Christ spoke out when things were not the way they were supposed to be. She concluded that humans cannot act like God.

@Diego_tse: “This lamba don too much. E be like say na Robot baba marry”

@AdedoyinAsh: “Arguments are needed to come to a common ground. It is how people from different upbringing and characters cohabit. I’ll take his word for it until proven otherwise but it’s highly unlikely. Even Jesus and Mary argued before he agreed to turn water to wine.”

@BABASKYO: “Humans argue because we are different.

It is ok for couples to argue.

It helps bring out issues and they are properly addressed.

Where there is no argument you would always have a subservient partner that bottles up grievances and just allow peace to reign than voice out.”

Some others, however, supported Oyedepo.

Ogar Sunday Emmanuel wrote: “I’ve been married 6 years, ZERO argument, zero fight.”

@naturalboifilmz: “Two years into our marriage, my wife and I have never fought. When we misunderstood each other, we just talk things out like the adults we are and move on.”
